Last year I polled the known Finalists that received byes. This year I want to expand that as much as I can to the rest of the state. I sent out a few questions to the 2014 Finalists to get a glimpse of history, insight, perspective, and advise.
I met Everett last year when a few of us around the state took a road trip to Mobile Bay to run two practice events in one weekend at two different stores. I know Everett to be the construction guru at Gamers N Geeks, and a guy that can build a table that his own massive truck could likely drive on. So I’m glad that he has decided to give us a chance to get to know him. This is Everett’s second time to qualify at Gamers N Geeks.
JBW: Hey Everett, thanks for taking the time to talk to me. So how did you get into 40K?
I first got into miniatures when I got back from deployment overseas. I was big into models as a kid and a buddy of mine was trying to get me into WHFB. My LGS was hosting an escalation campaign for 40k and I thought the models and gameplay looked pretty cool. Played a few learning games with Daniel Fincher and loved it.
JBW: Do you have other armies? Would you mind giving us a quick list of them?
I just recently sold my first army which was Necrons. I have a large force of Orks and am currently building an Iron Hands detachment.
JBW: What’s your favorite part of the game, is it the hobby, gaming, or something else?
For me its about the hobby / modeling. I love Orks for that reason because you can kit bash just about anything into an Ork model. The tactical challenges the game presents would be a close second.
JBW: In your opinion what qualities do you think makes for a good tournament player, or a good player overall?
Overall I think a good player has to be able to win lose and teach the game to new comers with a good attitude. I personally struggle with being a good tourney player actually. My hyper competitiveness screws with my attitude at the table and can make the game not fun sometimes. Its a known issue I’m working on.
JBW: You are a fellow Ork player at heart. Will we be seeing the green skins this year, or are you swapping to something else for the time being?
As much as I love my Orks I will be playing something else this year. I am still building and painting my Orks while waiting on the new codex to come out.
JBW: I know you have helped in escalating the terrain making at your local store. What tips can you give us about making terrain, and building the supply at your local store?
Biggest advice about terrain I can give is do your homework online. There are so many resources available for terrain building and ideas. Also make sure what you build is playable and overbuild a little for durability.
JBW: Thanks Everett, see you again soon.
