Well, we have wrapped up another awesome event. Thanks to Dan Clayton for putting a target on his back again for the third year and being the Head Judge. I’d also like to thank Brad Fritts for stepping in and helping us keep an eye on things judging and prep for the event. Will Clayton was key to the deployment and construction to get  Crimson Castle 6×4 ready. Thanks to Excelsior and Adam Lindsey for loaning the terrain for use during the weekend.

Crimson Castle was a great place to host the Final, had plenty of space, and were very easy to work with.

So here’s the official Rankings after 5 rounds of battles.

[separator text=”Single Painted Model Competition”]

Being the first year that we have tried a single model painting competition, we critiqued and discussed the best way to determine a winner. After some discussion we went with the following approach. I liked it a lot and truly represents the subjective and objective points of judging painting.

C.A.G.E. Match 2014 Single Model Painting

Competition Judging Rubric

For the 2014 C.A.G.E. Match at Crimson Castle Games in Tuscaloosa, we held a Single Model Painting Competition. There were 18 lovely models being judging on the following system:

Originality – Conversions, color scheme, approach to model
Technique – Skills exhibited in your piece: basing, shading, detail
Presentation – Basing, cohesion, visual impact, etc.

Up to 10 points in each category; three judges; highest score out of 90 possible points is the winner. work, cleanliness of painting, etc.

[separator text=”SPORTSMANSHIP”]

Sportsmanship is determined by Forced Ranking System, which requires players to rank their opponents 1-5 without repeating any ranks. 1 are worth 1o points, 2s are worth 8 points and so on… Ties are broken by the players that scored lower throughout the tournament. We feel that someone that can take a beating or have a rough day and still be ranked high by their opponents is an ideal candidate for top sportsman. Below are the 2014 sportsmanship rankings. Notice that Ryan J was also the winner of the tournament.
